Late 19th Century Cabinet Chest by Goumain Frères

This cabinet chest is an intricately crafted case piece designed and manufactured by the Paris-based Goumain Frères in the late 19th Century. It is composed from black oak and is noteworthy for its carved decorative features. The flattop is bordered by a frieze at the front and sides, consisting of a scalloped foliage pattern. At the front, this frieze camouflages two drawers. Beneath, three carved columns frame and compose the cabinet's two doors, which give way to a deep storage space. The chest rests on a carved base that mirrors the top frieze and is supported by four spheroid legs. Inside the cabinet is the Goumain Frères label.
