This Caucasian Kazak rug was hand-woven circa 1950s. It is comprised of wool with a rich palette of burgundy and crimson hues mixed with navy blue, black, ivory, and yellow. The wool is thickly woven, creating a dense, soft surface. The design of the rug is arranged around a central rectangle navy blue rectangle with a column of three medallions in ocher red and yellow. This rectangle in turn is framed with a series of borders with a pattern of curled, almost calligraphic forms.
The rug is newly cleaned and is in very good shape.
