René Zimmermann (1904-1991) was a French painter, printmaker, and illustrator. His many landscapes includes this remarkable blue-skied oil painting, "Noria de la Province de Murcia, Espagne". A noria is a machine powered by water and used to lift and move water for a village. Zimmermann's painting is beautiful with its energetic brushwork, sensuously applied in varying thicknesses and textures.
The canvas is framed in gilt wood frame. The artist signed the work at the bottom right and wrote the title of the painting on the reverse wood support.
Frame: 28" width, 24 1/2" height, 1" depth.
