This modestly sized oil painting on paper mounted on board is by the Provincetown artist William Horace Littlefield (1902-1969). His paintings span a wide range of visual vocabulary. This one is an untitled abstraction with scumbled colors applied in thick patches amidst splatter-like marks. The pastel palette is like that of Symbolist artist Odilon Redon, whose paintings were dreamy and fantastic.
This painting is signed and dated on the back. It maintains its original white-painted wood frame.
12" x 15" (framed).
