William Littlefield Untitled Small Drawing, 1951

This small drawing on paper is by the Provincetown artist William Horace Littlefield (1902-1969). His paintings and drawings span a wide range of visual vocabulary. This work was a study for a painting made later in the same year, 1951. it features an abstracted, athletic figure with lines that radiate from its contours, forming a dynamic, cubist composition.

The drawing consists of graphite on paper. It is mounted and framed in a recessed wood frame with a glass cover. The artist signed and dated the work at the bottom, towards the lower right. The back of the frame includes hand-written notes about the work and a printed list of museums and private collectors.
